The Twitter avatars I have created are a “mash up” between different logos, text and “posterized” images. I will start the Atlas Shrugged Twitter Project… and what is that? Well, I do not even know… I read the book, 1300 pages, in one week. I must say that I read it during August 2012 and found out days later that the book is back on every political discussion in the US. Just coincidence. I loved the book: the story, its characters and its parallel reality. What about the political ideas of the book? Well, I think they are interesting to start a thought conversation with friends… it is a “teaser” as I see it. Now lets go back to the project:
- Why?
I love art deco. I also loved the book and thought it was a good idea to try to replicate the book as a set of Twitter Conversations (dialogues) and announcements (facts or opinions)… with images as I imagined it would be.
- Experience doing this?
None, first time I will try something like this and I do not know of any similar projects. I am not claiming any kind of “artistic entrepreneurship” on this, just to say that I do not have any guidance (have not looked either). In other words, YES… there will be some unintentioned mistakes and inaccuracies. Sorry!
- Time it will take?
No idea, what my free time allows. It will not follow the timeline set in the book in real time (would take years).
- Is this any kind of art?
I do not know. But it is fun… at least for me. I intend to use some of my artwork too… for example to showcase some scenes. Furthermore, I will create/edit some art work specially for the project (avatars, pictures and drawings). For example, I have already created some “corporate logos” as you’ll see in the companies’ twitter accounts.
- How will it work?
I have created some (many) twitter accounts which I intend to use to tell the story. There is also an “official” twitter account that I will use to answer questions, receive ideas or just prepare the setting for the other tweets. This twitter account is: @ASTProject
The story could be followed in three ways:
1. By following every twitter account
2. By following and checking the “Atlas Shrugged Twitter Project” list created by @ASTPRoject
3. By checking the “storify” page that I will produce to tell the book chapter by chapter.
- When does the project start?
As soon as I have all the accounts prepared…

Oil / Oleo
This is my first painting in 2009: “Landscape from Mendoza”. It represents a picture that my friend Picolo Bieller took while travelling and fishing in south Mendoza, Argentina. As I did before with the “Plaza Mayor in Mexico” painting, which was inspired on a picture taken by another friend, Juan Cruz Diaz, I have tried to give a particular look to the image instead of copying it. Furthermore, for this painting I did not have the picture with me so I had to remember it as much as I could. The painting is still in Washington, DC and I have planned to bring it to Argentina in June.
Esta es mi primer cuadro del 2009: “Paisaje de Mendoza”. Representa una fotografia que mi amigo Picolo Bieller saco mientras viajaba y pescaba en el sur de Mendoza, Argentina. Tal como hice con el cuadro “Plaza Mayor en Mexico”, que fue inspirado en una foto tomada por otro amigo, Juan Cruz Diaz, he tratado de darle un toque particular en vez de copiarla. Mas aun, para esta obra no tuve la fotografia conmigo por lo que tuve que recordarla lo mas posible. El cuadro se encuentra todavia en Washington, DC y tengo planeaddo traerlo a la Argentina en Junio.

While living in Washington I have not been able to paint much. 2008 has been a strange year regarding art as I have focused on just enjoying art rather than producing. I have filled my life with music this time… one year for Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, the Raconteurs, Radiohead, the Kills, the Teenagers, We are Scientists, B-52’s, Filter, Kings of Leon, the Breeders, Lou Reed, Cafe Tacvba, Morcheeba and some other bands unnoticed (yet). Anyways, I was able to paint at least four paintings: all different size, similar techniques and same subject: Rio de Janeiro. This time I used a mixed technique: I printed photographs I have taken in Brazil in 2006 and glued them to a canvas/board and paint on them… in other words, felt like being back at school doing a collage.
Vivir en Washington no me ha permitido pintar demasiado. 2008 ha sido un año extraño a lo que arte se refiere ya que me focalizado mas en disfrutar el arte que en producirlo. He llenado mi vida con musica esta vez.. un año de mi vida para Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, the Raconteurs, Radiohead, the Kills, the Teenagers, We are Scientists, B-52’s, Filter, Kings of Leon, the Breeders, Lou Reed, Cafe Tacvba, Morcheeba y otras bandas que no son conocidas (todavia). Aun asi, pude pintar por lo menos cuatro cuadros: todos de diferentes tamaños, con tecnicas similares y sobre el mismo tema: Rio de Janeiro. Esta vez utilice una tecnica mixta: imprimi fotografias que habia tomado durante mi visita a Brasil en 2006 y las pegue en un canvas/carton y pinte sobre ellas… en otras palabras, me senti como de vuelta en el colegio haciendo un collage.

"Girl at the beach" - Oil on canvas 19.7 x 23.6 inches (oleo en canvas 50 x 60 cm)
“Lack of time” was the main excuse for a bad year in painting…. although a good year in videos and pictures (which are not my favourites). Anyway, here it is: “Girl at the beach”. It is now property of Maria Jose Reynals, my girlfriend, as it was painted specially for her.

Oil on hardboard / Oleo sobre hardboard entelado (45x35cm)
Although the title reminds everyone about the famous movie of a cute french girl doing strange stuff, I must admit that when I did and name this painting, I had not watched the movie yet. This artwork -an oil over hardboard- is part of the Eyes series as well as the painting “No title (for Sofia)” but has the same “transparent effect” that “Flor (version)” from the Flower series.
Aunque el titulo para todo el mundo sea una fiel copia a la famnosa pelicula don de una simpatica chica francesa hacia cosas fuera de lo normal, debo admitir que cuando realice esta obra, no habia visto la pelicula todavia. Este cuadro -un oloe sobre hardboard- es parte de la serie Ojos junto con el cuadro “Sin titulo (para Sofia)” pero posee el mismo “efecto transparente” que tiene “Flor version” de la serie Flores. This Acrylic painting over hardboard is inspired on a great picture taken by my friend Juan Cruz Diaz while we were travelling in Mexico in year 2000. His black and white photograph shows a silhouette of the cathedral and various others buildings creating an amazing contrast with the grey sky. Another participant of the 2000 trip to Mexico, Maria Belen Jaliff, got my painting as a gift.
Esta pintura realizada en acrilico sobre hardboard entelado esta inspirada en una gran fotografia que saco mi amigo Juan Cruz Diaz mientras estabamos de viaje en Mexico en el 2000. Su fotografia en Balnco y Negro muestra una silueta de la Catedral y otros edificios, creando un sorprendente contraste con el cielo gris. The second Oil painting represents a Gaussian Blur of a sun-flower. No computer was used in any stage of the work. This painting was given to my friend Daniela Baldini as a gift for her wedding. It was painted over a hardboard.
